History of Gaming Art Vol. IV

The previous post was so goddamn ugly I just had to get it off the top of the page. So here's the cleric picture from the good old Mentzer basic D&D.



By this time TSR was veering away from the more arcane and weird and gritty medieval illustrations (guys like Erol Otus or Dave Trampier). An almost hyperrealistic look was being developed that would last deep into 2nd edition and continue its influence through the third edition. (untill 4th edition's more stylized, high-action, almost cartoony look delivered by Wayne Reynolds).
